Abbasi and another (Respondents) v Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Appellant)

February 2024: The MLA applied for permission to intervene in the Appellant’s appeal. The Appellant, Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, has appealed the Court of Appeal’s decision to discharge Reporting Restriction Orders (RROs) preventing the identification of medical professionals involved in the care of two young children about whom applications to withdraw medical treatment were made. The issue for the Appeal is whether the Court of Appeal’s decision to discharge the RROs is correct in light of the required balancing exercise between the relevant article 8 and article 10 Convention rights.
